PERSONAL INTERESTS

When I’m not being the mother of two beautiful children or wife to a husband who spoils me far more than I deserve, I am almost certainly glued to my desk – either working or doing some personal web or hardware project.

I have a wide range of interests (far more than I can make time for) – though identify mostly with being somewhat of a nerd.

I am especially passionate about hardware/software, web development and networking.  I spend a ridiculous amount of time on my home media center setups and building/rebuilding/upgrading system hardware.  I’ve also recently gotten into Linux, but am not sure that will be a lasting interest.

Living in the middle of nowhere and having few friends with whom I can share these interests, I occasionally feel lonely for geek-speak, which results in my spending what is probably an unhealthy amount of time online.

Although I can hold my own in social situations, I mostly feel awkward around other people and prefer a more solitary life.  The area where I live is quite remote and social gatherings typically involve patronizing the local taverns.   I enjoy this once every couple of months  or so – but ultimately lack the tolerance for hangovers or drunken, social embarrassment that I once had.

POLITICAL

Not a true liberal – but I find that my mindset leans far more towards the left.  Most of my views are non-traditional, if not outright eccentric.  Although I despise war, I understand that it is inevitable given our current evolutionary position in terms of cognitive development – though secretly believe we’d be much better off if matriarchal societies were more commonplace.

Conservatives frighten and disturb me.  Religion makes me uncomfortable.

WORK

I’m a freelance web designer and develop php/mysql database applications.  At the moment, my primary business is Veda Designs, which provides design and development services to companionship providers  (a trade which I have a profound amount of respect for and find absolutely no shame in).  When the children eventually go off to school full-time, I’ll put more effort into my local design business, Flambeau Media Group (which has been put on hold the last two years).

  A content management system designed for companion websites
• VedaAgency
  A sub-shoot of VedaCMS, but with extra development for the dynamic needs of an agency website.
